RICKY ROTTER STRIKES AGAIN!
Those of you who were kind (brave? generous? foolish?) enough to read my book The Toyboy Diaries may remember:
Chapter One
Ricky Rotter and the Fountain of Youth
in which I relate the story of my first ever toyboy encounter.
I was a 42-year old recovering divorcée away on a ski trip with my teenage daughter. A trio of cousins were occupying the next door apartment and amongst them was a rather gorgeous, though slightly arrogant, young man I took to be about 27. Not in my wildest imagination did I expect what followed, but he was mildly flirtatious which lifted my spirits after the long, slow collapse of my long, slow marriage.
On the New Year’s Eve, we all joined forces at the hotel ball. Just before midnight, he swanned over to me and with casual insouciance said: “I’m leaving. You coming?”
Torn between missing the dreaded chimes and getting dragged into a crazy conga line with a load of pissed-up strangers, I agreed. We left the mad melée as the balloons began to fall and set off in a blustering blizzard with the New Year exploding all around us.
On reaching his apartment along the hall from mine, he swung the door open and stepped aside to let me in. I hesitated for a heartbeat…then stepped across the threshold into the rest of my life.
His seduction of me was totally unexpected, though swift, sensual and satisfying. When it was over, the first question I asked him was: “How old are you?” to which he replied – with no trace of embarrassment -: “19.”
I didn’t know whether to be horrified or delighted but he set the benchmark for my toyboy adventures which have continued ever since.
Throughout the years our paths have crossed on numerous occasions and although never quite as shockingly erotic as that first time, I embrace this aspect of our relationship. We love and lose so many people in our lives, it is gratifying to be able to revisit those places you never thought you’d see again and enjoy them with renewed ardour.
Ricky is married now to a woman nine years his senior, but she’s a bit of a harridan and he’s clearly unsettled. He sometimes sends me flattering little late-night texts:
My wife’s got a lot to thank you for…you are the best
You taught me everything I know…
Not all young men have as good a tutor…
Obi-Wan…The force is strong in you…
Ricky’s packing a few extra pounds now and apparently, his wife refuses to let him make love to her until he’s lost them. Silly woman – he may lose the pounds but she’ll lose her husband if she hasn’t already…
He’s 39 now and I am 62 but I tell you, folks, there ain’t no need to do numbers. A man is a man and a woman is a woman but what I like most about our story is that twenty years on from that first encounter, we can meet again whenever time, geography and the fancy takes us and enjoy ourselves for an hour or two with no ties and no commitments.
And that, my friends, is what being a grown-up is all about!
