If you got hooked first time, get ready for round two. That’s right, your favourite cougar dating site has put together the essential list of romance and dating literature you need in 2019. The following is a culmination of hot romance, gripping stories and lovable characters. We can’t wait to check out these novels and soon, so will you.

Minette Walters

For anyone gripped by The Last Hours, get ready for an epic conclusion to the fantastic series. In the first of the series, (also called ‘The Last Hours’),Walters confidently explored the Medieval romance genre, giving you a concrete sense of time and place. Historical romance differs from traditional romance as it requires an expertly placed sense of space, you need to feel as though you’re actually there. Walters has done this brilliantly with The Last Hours series.

Set in the 1340’s against a backdrop of devastation caused by the Black Death, the novels follow a romantic entanglement that battles against the turmoil around them. Its conclusion, The Turn of Midnight, is set to be a powerful end to the series.

Mandy Baggot

With feel good romance and delicious wit and comedy, Baggot is a rare author that can give you that warm feeling inside. Baggot came to our attention with Truly, Madly, Greekly, a must have for your next Summer holiday. We follow Ellen as she’s pulled between trying to come to terms with her life falling apart and her sister’s chaotic wedding planning. Flying off to Corfu, she only wants to rebuild herself in the Greek sun, that’s until Greece gives her a distraction – the handsome Yan.

Grab your suitcase, we’re making our way back to Corfu with One Last Greek Summer. We’re so excited to see a return of the hot, romantic adventures that we enjoyed so much in Truly, Madly, Greekly. Definitely one to check out.

Kristen Ashley

Ashley has been a firm favourite of our for a while. An author with an incredible range, she’s penned a plethora of standalone novels and exciting series. Ashley is very much a romance author that perks our ears whenever there’s a new novel announcement.

For anyone unfamiliar with Ashley, a great place to start is with the thrill-ride that is the Rock Chick series. As the title suggests, the series hosts a number of kick ass rock chicks who take part in action packed adventures. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes unbelievable, but always hot, the Rock Chick series keeps you gripped never knowing what’s coming next.

Another favourite of ours is The Dream Man series. Just like Rock Chick, the series pulls no punches when it comes to hot bedroom romance. Mixing in Ashley’s skilful use of drama, comedy and character. Quiet Man is the latest in the series and we’re so excited to check this one out.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Samantha Towle

For anyone familiar with Towle’s work, you likely know of her smash hit The Storm series – a romping, fast paced thrillride with rockstar bad boys. Towle came to our attention however with her standalone novel Trouble.

Trouble mixes the bad boy romance we know and love with a difficult backstory, adding a layer of depth to our female protagonist Mia Monroe. Damaged by abusive men in her life, Monroe seeks a way out, but finds it in an unlikely place thanks to the headstrong Jordan Matthews. Trouble is a novel that keeps you gripped by these characters, wanting to uncover more and more of their rich and enveloping backstory. Towle is an author with an incredible insight into character. She is able to build complex and emotionally investing relationships between characters that seem to jump from the page.

For many, Towle is most well known for her The Storm series. The novels match up to their name, introducing a chaotic whirlwind of romance, emotion and rock and roll. An absolute highlight for us was the ending in 4th in the series, The Storm. Trust me, you need to read it to know what we’re talking about! We’re so excited for Towle’s next book, Finding Storm. Keep updated here.

Denise Grover

Grover is one of the most extensive writers on our list, writing expertly across a wide range of genres. No matter your literary preferences, Grover has a thrilling adventure on hand. For us, we’re in love with the Neely Kate Mystery series.

The books are an offshoot of the Rose Gardner Investigation series, which is an offshoot of the Rose Gardner Mystery series. Don’t worry, this just means there’s a lots of literature to sink your teeth into. The highlight for us has been, Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes, the first in the series. In it we’re introduced to Rose Gardner, our titular character that’ll follow us on stories across the Investigation and Mystery series. Don’t fret about being bogged down by an overly dark story, Grover successfully winds in humour and wit into a thrilling tale.

The Neely Kate Mystery series follows Kate, who was introduced to us in Rose Gardner’s stories. She was also a character we enjoyed and seeing her with her own series was such a treat. Check out the latest, Dirty Money, now.

Melissa Foster

You may know Foster for her fantastic Love In Bloom series – a set of books that truly exhibit her ability to mix seduction and emotion into a story.

The books touch on big subjects, such as the trials and tribulations of families. It subverts expectation by introducing a number of twists and surprising plotlines that keep you hooked. It also catches you off guard with it’s funny side, causing you to laugh out loud on several occasions.

‘The Bradens & Montgomerys: Pleasant Hill – Oak Falls’ has turned up the sex factor to 11, whilst keeping the fun and easy-reading style of its parent collection Love in Bloom. Be sure to check out the latest in the series – Wild, Crazy Hearts.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

J.D. Horn

For anyone not familiar with Horn’s work, it’s an expertly crafted dive into the paranormal and supernatural world. You do need to invest a level of concentration to grasp the winding politics and narrative of the books, but when you do you’re rewarded with an intense sense of investment.

Despite the otherworldly nature of Horn’s work, especially The Witches of New Orleans series, you never feel detracted from the story. While it conjures the fantastical, you always stay grounded thanks to the great depth Horn builds for his characters.

The Witches of New Orleans kicked off with The King of Bones and Ashes, and was followed up by a favourite of ours The Book of the Unwinding. The third in the series, The Final Days of Magic, sets to continue Alice Marin’s story. Definitely one to check out.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Anna Jacobs

Lancashire born Jacob’s is a firm favourite from our list. For anyone who’s a fan of historical stories of love and romance, Jacob’s is a heart-warming must read author.

Jacob’s came to our attention with the Rivershaw Saga. The books follow the lives of a number of characters trying to rebuild their lives during post World War 2. Everything from the small and seemingly mundane, such as rationing, to the weighty emotional chaos many of the characters face, all culminate into an expertly written set of stories. Jacobs explores the darkest aspects of relationships just as much as the positive sides, painting no relationship as perfect and mess-free.

Alongside the Rivershaw Saga, other series to check out include the Kershaw Sister Series, The Swan River Saga and, the eagerly anticipated new Birch End Series.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

K. Bromberg

Bromberg has a host of fantastic books that show off the best in erotic literature, definitely a go-to for us when we’re after a steamy literature session.

It would be difficult to list here all of highlights, but some top contenders include;

  • The Driven Series. This series was one of the reasons our attention was peaked by Bromberg, if you haven’t checked it out, what are you doing?! The story follows Colton, a high-flying casanova, and Rylee, a young woman rebuilding her life after a difficult past. With fully developed characters that are difficult not to relate to, you root for their relationship to develop, despite an ever-present dark history looming.
  • Everyday Heroes Series. Bromberg has an ability to mix passionate and seduction with a thoroughly emotional story, one that keeps you invested. The Everyday Heroes Series is no exception, with one of the most favourite central characters we’ve had with Emerson/Emmy.

We’re so excited for Bromberg’s latest series Wicked Ways, be sure to check it out on launch day.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Kristen Proby

You may have heard of Proby from the fantastic With Me in Seattle series, most notably the explosive start to the series with Come Away With Me.

Come Away With Me has been a firm favourite for us, definitely a go-to for a hot, sexual story that holds no bars. The central couple don’t hit it off at first. Luke accuses Natalie, a professional photographer, of being paparazzi even though she has no idea who he is. But that introduction doesn’t stop a sensual romance developing.

The With Me in Seattle series continues to go from strength to strength, with Fight With Me, possibly one of the hottest male leads we’ve seen in a while, and Play With Me, which cements this series as one that follows men who know what they want, and they’re not going to stop until they’ve got it.

The Romancing Manhattan series started with the fantastic All the Way and we’re eagerly anticipating the second in the series; All it Takes

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Sabrina Jeffries

Jeffries work mixes the historical world of lords and ladies, royalty and family, with a seductive central relationship. Out of the many historical romance authors, Jeffries’ work towers with its uncanny ability to build worlds. Necessary for any successful historical romance story is a tactile settings, one that you can close your eyes and imagine enveloping you. Jeffires work does just that, with the most notable being The Hellions of Halstead Hall series, a firm favourite of ours.

We’re super excited for Project Duchess, which seems to be echoing many of the same themes of The Hellions of Halstead Hall, a dark secret past and reluctance to see that what is in front of you. Be sure to check out Project Duchess.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Devney Perry

We first had our interest peaked by Perry with the fantastic Jamison Valley series, especially its introduction and Perry’s debut, The Coppersmith Farmhouse. Despite being a debut, this story shows an author who understands the craft and knows how to write characters. Even after finishing The Coppersmith Farmhouse, it had us yearning to return to the sweet central romance. Despite their rocky start, it’s a relationship that had us bursting with joy.

We thoroughly enjoyed the first in Perry’s other series, the Maysen Jar. Again Perry makes it so you can’t help but fall in love with the main romance. A story full of love and emotion bursting from the pages. That’s why we’re super excited for book 2, Letters to Molly.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Jennifer Probst

Where do we start with Probst? If you’re short on time and can only read one series this year, firstly, you need to find more spare time?! Secondly, the Marriage to a Billionaire series may be a perfect option. It’s definitely our favourite from Probst.

The first in the series, The Marriage Bargain, is a story we’ve seen before but done in an interesting way. Billionaire Nicholas Ryan needs to find someone to marry to keep his wealthy status. He offers Alexa McKenzie an interesting ‘proposal’ – a fake marriage. As you can imagine, things don’t go to plan.

Probst is an accomplished author and by reading her work, you can see that very clearly. She has a writing style that exudes confidence, seductive without being smutty, sweet without being soppy. Marriage to a Billionaire is an explosive, hot series, and it’s only the tip of the iceberg of Probst’s work.

The Stay series keeps this confident writing style whilst adding heaps of sweet and heartwarming story. This series has been thoroughly entertaining and we can’t wait for the next in the series, All Roads Lead to You.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Jay Crownover

If you haven’t heard of Crownover’s work before, you’re missing out an author of unabashed, tantalising literature. Crownover’s extensive back catalogue of hot romance and even hotter male leads is a treat for any reader. Our standout favourites include:

  • Downfall, and not just for the cover! Downfall is a standalone series that follows Solo and Orly as they explore a blossoming romance, all whilst Orly’s dark past threatens all she cares about.
  • The Marked Men series. Definitely a favourite of ours because it doesn’t just settle for an erotic story. Don’t get us wrong, it’s got eroticism by the bucket load, however Crownover doesn’t let that be the only jewel in her crown. Each story’s ending sticks with you well after it’s finished, displaying a level of emotion and authenticity that’s sometimes rare to see in the genre.

Crownover’s latest book Justified (Loveless) will be released June 25, 2019 and we can’t wait!

That’s right, your favourite cougar dating site has pulled together the ultimate list of dating and romance literature you need to check out in 2019. We just can’t wait for these soon-to-be-released works of dating advice, steamy erotic novels, fantastic romance comedies and more. Don’t you dare go on another date until you’ve checked out our list, your next relationship will thank you for it!

William’s latest book is described an ’emotional and unflinchingly honest memoir of coming out of the closet late in life, owning up to the past, and facing the future’. His previous work is what drew our to attention to William. ‘Fashionably Late: Gay, Bi & Trans Men Who Came Out Later in Life’ deals with a similar topic, looking at the trials and tribulations not only of coming out – but doing so as a mature man. Not pulling any punches everything from gay conversion therapy to the difficult divorce are touched upon in the book.

Fashionably Late was an honest and authentic look at the feelings of a range of individuals, going through a difficult life transition. ‘The Lie: A Memoir of Two Marriages, Catfishing & Coming Out’ is set to be another in genuine look into a difficult topic, this time with a heightened sense of drama and a central narrative that we’re anticipating is just as page turning as William’s last book.

Travis’ back catalogue of work is as extensive as it is uplifting. Travis’ aim is to share happiness and goodwill through his books and the ‘Optimism Program’; a program described as ‘helping optimists change the world’. Read any of Travis’ work and you can see how optimism is his leading ideal, from ’52 Questions For A Happy Friendship’ to ‘Leading Happiness’.

Travis’ latest work is tackling the issues of dating and relationships, helping to ‘develop better communication skills and a more satisfying love life’ just by asking questions. It’s set to be an essential for any couple looking to grow and develop their relationship in a fun way and we’re super excited to get a copy when it’s released.

‘I Just Haven’t Met You Yet: Finding Self-Empowerment in Dating, Love, and Life’, no it’s not an incorrect guess for the second line in that famous song, instead it’s the soon to-be-released work by author Tracy Strauss.

Tracy gained our attention back in 2014 during her appearance on the The Steve Harvey Show. Her dating insights have been shared on a number of high-profile online blogs (Huffington Post, Glamour). So you can imagine our excitement when we heard she was writing a book. Her other writing has featured in a range of scholarly publications, and after reading you can see why. With a insightful and intelligent tone, Tracey’s soon to-be-released ‘I Just Haven’t Met You Yet’ is set to be a must read.

If you’re looking for a steamy night with a must read book, Tessa Bailey has always been a go-to for us. With an extensive back catalogue of work, you’re going to be happy we introduced you to this fantastic author.

Exciting and sexy, Tessa’s work is a treat for the eyes. The stand out series for most of our members have been the Line of Duty Series; a 5 book series following hot cops and ever hotter writing.

So why has ‘Fix Her Up’ caught our eye, ladies and gentlemen, it’s a romantic comedy. We’re so excited to see how Tessa transitions her fantastic writing to another genre! We’re expecting a whole heap of laughs alongside our usual dose of love and romance.

We’re big fans of the Instagram account @awardsforgoodboys, so imagine our surprise when we heard it’s unique yet insightful brand of humour was making it to a book. The account has a keen eye on our current dating and gender culture. With such a low bar for men to be considered ‘good boys’, when basic human decency is lauded as chivalry, what impact does that have on our day to day lives.

As a dating site, we see the full range of dating etiquette, from the honest to the sub-standard. Awards For Good Boys has a perfect and hilarious insight into the poorer parts of our relationship culture and we’re so excited to read Shelby’s latest release.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Shannon Boodram has been a frequent face in the dating world, offering her unique insight across a range of high profile TV shows, publications and her YouTube channel. Her first book ‘Laid: Young People’s Experiences with Sex in an Easy-Access Culture’, was an insightful look into the open sex culture of today. With direct accounts from a number of individuals, plus Shannon’s usual dating intelligence, ‘Laid’ was a fantastic debut book.

Her next book however is one that’s got us super excited. Ladies, it looks set to be a must-read! A self-described how-t0-guide, Shannon aims to teach us self-confidence and self-discovery, all to gain control of our dating lives and get exactly what we’re looking for. Shannon’s previous insights have been so fantastic, that this book is set to be our must-read as soon as it’s out.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Dating in our modern connected times; it’s safe to say we take it for granted. With our online dating world being such a new phenomenon, this opens the door to completed different dating experiences – whether they be good or bad. There’s been quite a lot of novels about this, Virtually Yours by Sarvenaz Tash is set to be a fantastic addition to the genre.

While geared towards children and teens, many of our members really love Sarvenaz work. Her previous novel, ‘The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love’, was a hilarious yet touching story of that heart fluttering kind of love and the pursuit to get the girl of your dreams. Obviously, as a dating site we love when topics on online dating get explored. Mix this with the delightful writing we’ve seen from Sarvenaz, Virtually Yours is set to be a must read on launch day.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

If this was a list of the best titled book, ‘The Coitus Chronicles: My Quest for Sex, Love, and Orgasms’ would still make the list. Funny girl and down-right fantastic author, Olive Persimmon latest work is set to be even better than ‘Unintentionally Celibate’, a book many of our members absolutely loved.

Olive Persimmon has been detailing her revelations about dating, love and sex all with a sharp humour for years. ‘Unintentionally Celibate’ explores an experience many of us may have shared. Put down the steamy erotic novels, this is a delightful look at what’s it like to never enter the kingdom of orgasm.

And the quest continues in ‘The Coitus Chronicles’. If this latest release is as funny, touching and genuinely real as ‘Unintentionally Celibate’, then we’re set for a fantastic second book.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

To summarise Madison’s work? Unashamed fun and blush-inducing sexiness. Natasha Madison has been a firm favourite of ours for quite a while, with her latest series ‘Hollywood Royalty’ being a continuation of her saucy and entertaining writing style.

For anyone who wants a brilliant introduction to Madison, check out the ‘Tempt Series’. The first book follows Austin and Lauren, boss and assistant who’s sexual attraction for each other is difficult to ignore. Instead of doing what HR probably would advise, they find themselves in a number of hilarious situations. A novel that expertly blends sexy and comedy. The second in the series, ‘Tempt The Playboy’ plays out alongside the first, focussing on Noah and Kaleigh – a unashamed womaniser and a hardened-to-love, confident woman. If you love sexy banter, this is one series to check out.

The ‘Hollywood Royalty’ series has been fantastic. Transporting Madison’s signature sexy writing to the world of Hollywood and the movies. The third in the series ‘Hollywood Prince’ makes our list as one of the most eagerly anticipated romance and erotic literature of 2019.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

We absolutely loved Herkness’ Wager of the Heart series. Each follows a handsome, rich protagonist harbouring a difficult truth – most notably a lack of real love. Each of these rugged men, struggle to find someone to love who’s not just there for their money. That’s until a lovable, hard-working love interest crashes into their life. Each story has you rooting for a happy ever after, bringing a level of charm into what is a very sexy story.

Herkness’ latest series ‘Second Glances’ is another equally enjoyable instance of the ‘exotic billionaire hunk – antithetical yet gorgeous love interest’ storyline. ‘Second Time Around’ was a sexy, explosion into a new series and we can’t wait for the follow-up – ‘Second Act’.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

With blossoming romances and an undercurrent of action and drama, the ‘Sapphire Bay’ series has got us gripped and we can’t wait for the next in the series; ‘Before Today’.

For anyone who hasn’t read any of the ‘Sapphire Bay’ series yet (or any of Morgan’s other brilliant series, most notably ‘Emerald Lake Billionaires’ and ‘The Montana Brides’), you need to fix that sharpish. ‘Falling for You’, the series’ introduction, is still our firm favourite. Following Natalie Armstrong and Gabe Lanigan, a developing relationship keeps you invested while an ever-lurking danger keeps you tense and desperate to know what happens next.

‘Before Today’ introduces a rugged yet lovable male protagonist in Levi Montgomery, set to turn Brooke Johnson’s simple life in Sapphire Bay upside down. Check this out on release date.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

It’s no surprise that romance novels that delve into the world of modern dating and online dating are extra intriguing for us – and we’re super excited for this author to take the helm. ‘The Magnolia Chronicles: Adventures in Modern Dating’ is set to be a witty tale of embarrassment and compassion.

Our interest in Canterbary peaked on a very different series however, The Walsh Series. A series that follows a string of masculine rebels and damaged heartthrobs. Full of wild eroticism and headstrong characters, the 8 part series is definitely one to check out. We can’t wait to see Canterbary’s writing style become even more flexible, introducing comedy, satire and a biting account of modern dating.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Albert first came up on our radar with the Out of Uniform series, following the love affairs of men in the military – and boy, do we love a military storyline! Albert’s work really shines through thanks to its focus on character. We spend a great deal of time establishing the relationship between the love interests, we see them bonding and growing together. All of which makes the eroticism all the more captivating. Wheels Up, has to be our favourite which layers on an extra dollop of emotion to the story.

Albert’s latest series ‘Frozen Hearts’ is set to start with ‘Arctic Sun’ – a tale ‘opposites-attract romance between a rugged outdoorsman and a smoking hot former male model’. We’re super excited to check it out and that’s why it’s made our list!

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Nandini Bajpai weaves exciting depictions of Indian culture and facets of relationships anyone can relate to in her previous work. From ‘Red Turban White Horse: My Sister’s Hurricane Wedding’; a thoroughly enjoyable page turner to ‘Starcursed’; an exciting novel of history, romance and drama, Nandini’s work has been a favourite for a number of our members.

Nandini latest novel ‘A Match Made in Mehendi’ takes us straight into high school, for what’s set to be a story of embarrassing first loves and the social jungle that is teen life. The story looks to bring in the same themes of tradition and culture present in her other works, which make such enthralling books to read.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Yes! A follow up to ‘One Man Guy’. That’s exactly what we thought when we heard of Michael Barakiva’s latest release ‘Hold My Hand’.

‘One Man Guy’ is a brilliant depiction of adolescent love and discovery centred around two growing young boys. With a tone that’s sweet and endearing, ‘One Man Guy’ is a difficult book to put down. Following the story of Alek and Ethan, very few stories successfully engross you in the characters’ story so well that you feel alongside with them. Whether that be the highs of love or the lows of heartbreak.

After such a powerful debut novel, we have big expectations for ‘Hold My Hand’. We’re so thrilled we get to continue the story of two enchanting characters.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Mary Ann Marlowe first novel ‘Some Kind of Magic’ was a fantastic debut. Biochemist Eden Sinclair meets international rock star Adam Copeland, for a central relationship that’s electric and sexy. Marlowe’s writing style never bores, she keeps you on your toes in this fast, flirty novel.

And it’s for this reason we’re extremely excited for Marlowe’s latest work, ‘Dating by the Book’. No, it’s not an alternative to ‘Dating for Dummies’. ‘Dating by the Book’ introduces us to ‘writer and bookstore owner Maddie Hanson’ as she embarks on a journey of love and romantic celebration. Not settling for one love interest, ‘Dating by the Book’ our protagonist whirlwind dating life meets ‘a smoldering rock musician, the bookish college professor… even a Silver Fox’. If ‘Dating by the Book’ has the same flirty, vivaciousness of  ‘Some Kind of Magic’, then we’re in for a treat.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Leslie Morgan Steiner 2009 hit ‘Crazy Love’ was a raw and authentic memoir of surviving domestic violence. While difficult to read a certain points, its powerful writing style made for an excellent read. This book and her subsequent media appearances have helped inspire confidence, strength and leadership for many women.

We’re so excited for ‘The Naked Truth’ as it details a story many of our members have experienced, the desire to rid themselves of the shackles of the lonely, middle-aged divorcee cliché. With a confident and unashamed attitude, Leslie accounts her search for sexual and romantic satisfaction. We’re hoping for Leslie’s traditional unfiltered writing style that really explores what it’s like to date and find love at a confident, mature woman.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Lauren Morrill has been a firm favourite for many of our members, her comforting writing style makes her work a pleasure to read. A really gem of ‘swoon romance’, Lauren’s novels are a delightful must read.

‘Better Than the Best Plan’ seems set on continuing that tradition. Not the first time Lauren’s tackled the idea of ‘first love’ (check out ‘Being Sloane Jacobs’ which mixes young love with delightful and funny body swap antics), ‘Better Than the Best Plan’ tells the story of Ritzy as she’s taken back to foster care – however are things really as bad as they seem? Definitely one for our list of eagerly anticipated dating books.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Get ready ladies, it’s another set of steamy erotic literature; and for us, Kate Meader is a firm favourite. This may be cheating, but Kate’s on our list twice – for the next two books in the ‘Laws of Attraction’ series (Illegally Yours and Then Came You). We’ve cooked up some romance in the ‘Hot in the Kitchen’ series, we’ve swooned for sexy firemen in the ‘Hot in Chicago’ series. Now get ready for some steamy lawyer action in the ‘Laws of Attraction’ series (Are you pro-bono or just happy to see me?).

With a sharp sexy writing style and a love of dramatic, Kate Meader’s work has always been a firm favourite of ours. The first in the series; ‘Down with Love’, was a fantastic introduction into this world of romance and law. Where the courtroom isn’t the only place for the action. Definitely one to check out.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Get ready ladies, it’s about to get steamy. Evie Claire is back with what’s set to be a hot return to form with ‘Let’s Talk About Sext’. The last work from Evie Claire was all the back in 2016, with the ‘Hollywood Hot Mess’ series – a two book series I really loved and so did many of our members.

‘Hollywood Hot Mess’ did away with romance novel boredom. Yes, the action was definitely a high point but unlike many others in the genre, it wasn’t the only thing on offer. With a twisting and ever increasingly surprising story, the ‘Hollywood Hot Mess’ series was a fantastic debut. We’re so excited Evie is back with a new two part series and we eagerly anticipating was set to be a fantastic read.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

David Yoon’s debut novel makes our list of most for the most eagerly anticipated romance and dating literature of 2019. The novel promises a coming-of-age story that tackles ethnicity, love and what it means to understand yourself. Already receiving rave reviews and even being optioned to be a film by Paramount, this debut novel is set to be a explosive introduction on the scene. We can’t wait!

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Just by reading We Are the Perfect Girl’s synopsis, we’re getting excited for what’s set to be a hilarious and endearing story of friendship and cute boy crushes, and there’s very few authors better to tell the story than Ariel Kaplan. Friends Aphra and Bethany fall for the handsome Greg and embark on an elaborate story of disguise and deceit. ‘What begins as an honest mistake turns into an elaborate deception, wherein Bethany goes on dates with Greg while Aphra coaches her on what to say, and texts him in the guise of Bethany, trying and failing, all the while, to tamp down her own hopeless crush. It’s only a matter of time before things come crashing down. ‘

Kaplin’s previous work is full of sharp wit and heart-filled stories. A strong voice in the young adult fiction genre, this latest work is set to be a fantastic read.

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

‘Sex and the Enneagram’ is the latest work by Ann Gadd and definitely something we have a peak curious interest in reading. For many of our members, understanding our attitudes towards sex and relationships has been something long pondered; how do these attitudes change when we put through the model of ‘the Enneagram’ – a 9 personality type teaching.

Gadd’s previous work has enlightened us on many aspects of our lives, from income to self-confidence. Gadd has previously discussed relationships a number of times and we hoping ‘Sex and the Enneagram’ again brings that sharp insight Gadd is known for. Definitely one to check out if you’re looking to better understand yourself and you relationships.

Alisha Rai’s work has been a firm favourite for many of our members, a her latest work is set to bring her steamy and explosive writing style to a topic we know particularly well – online dating.

If erotic literature is your thing, Alisha Rai has been a powerhouse in the genre for a number of years. With a seductive way of words, deep and engaging characters and a sensual story, Rai is definitely one to check out. We’re super excited for ‘The Right Swipe: A Novel’ which firmly places her work in the modern dating world we live in.

Mary Calmes first came to our attention with the brilliant Marshal series. Following Miro Jones a, you guessed it, US Marshal trying to understand new feelings for his antithesis – Ian Doyle. His evolving love affair goes far from smoothly, not at all helped by his action-filled, dangerous career.

We love when a series follows one couple and the 4 part Marshall series did so with two protagonists you can’t help but fall for. Despite their differences and the explosive aspects of their relationship, you continue to root for a happy ending from book to book.

The new series Torus Intercession (which just sounds so cool!) starts with No Quick Fix which from the opening line of the blurb is set to be an interesting adventure ‘A retired SEAL is about to face his toughest assignment yet. As a nanny…’. We’re looking forward to checking out Mary Calmes new book as it’s set to blend an enveloping romantic relationship against a thrilling, action-packed backdrop.

For us, the Alien Outlaws series is one that took us by surprise. It’s so hard to write erotic fiction and mix it well with sci-fi, but Escape from Ixilta (the first in the Aliens Outlaws series) did exactly that!

The plot follows Andie Munster as she meets the handsome Xandr and embarks on a chaotic, romantic love affair – and did we mention Xandr is a gorgeous purple alien. Sci-fi and erotic fiction are the hardest to mix well, but Rudolph did a fantastic job with this short yet punchy introduction to the series.

Rudolph has a number of similar series (Detyen Warriors series, Mated to the Alien series) that we definitely going to be checking out. But before then, we can’t wait for the next in the Alien Outlaws series – Rogue Alien’s Woman.

Where do we start with Nana Malone? If you’re looking for sharp wit and no holds barred sexy stories, you’ve come to the right woman.

It would take us a while to pick which of Nana Malone seductive novels are our favourite, but for us the one that first drew our attention to her was ‘The Shameless Trilogy’. Get ready ladies, you’re in for a treat here.

The series follows Noah Blake, a masculine, specimen of a man that jumps from the page. With a shrouded past and dark secrets, this is one character that invites curiosity and attraction in equal measure. With some of the best twists and reveals we’ve read, for us this was an explosive introduction to Malone’s work.

Mixing royalty and heart pounding eroticism isn’t new for Malone (you need to check out Royals United and Royals Undercover) and her latest series The Heiress Duet is set to be a return to the steamy topic. Protecting the Heiress is released March, 19. It’s definitely one to pre-order now!

Amazon Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Sasha’s previous book came to our attention for its pick of setting, the idyllic Cotswolds. Reading A Country Scandal it’s clear to see this wasn’t just a random choice of location, but it fits perfectly with the sweet, honest story. Building a relationship is one thing, but successfully painting a wonderful setting turns a novel from a good read to one that you’re enveloped within.

We follow Tobias Cavendish-Blake as he inherits not only a large stately home, but the responsibility of dealing with its impending money problems. He’s not alone however, as he’s eventually helped by Megan Taylor, a powerfully compassionate woman who you can’t help but also fall in love with.

A Country Rivalry is set to introduce even more drama into the series. We can’t wait to see what happens next to Megan and Tobias, and for that reason it’s made our list.

Through April’s eyes, we experience joys and heartaches that echo across more than a half-century of old family secrets and ways, and the triumphs and defeats involved in trying to break the mould. The book sheds light on universal struggles involving love, sexuality, addiction, and mental health. April’s adventures lead to betrayal and suffering, and her fate depends on family. April must learn the fine line between guidance and sabotage as she claws her way to a future not as a saviour, but as a fiercely accomplished woman.

How Casual Sex Can Lead to Love https://toyboywarehouse.com/blog/casual-sex-can-lead-love/ https://toyboywarehouse.com/blog/casual-sex-can-lead-love/#respond Wed, 30 Aug 2017 15:43:14 +0000 https://toyboywarehouse.com/?p=10068

It’s easy to think ‘casual sex cannot lead to love’, but that’s exactly what happened to me in 2014. I had been dating for nearly 3 years since breaking up with my girlfriend in 2011. It’s easy to think ‘casual sex cannot lead to love’, but that’s exactly what happened to me in 2014.

I had been dating for nearly 3 years since breaking up with my girlfriend in 2011. Having a serious relationship was something I just wasn’t interested in during that period. But not having a girlfriend meant that I was also missing out on regular sex. Sex was something I was interested in. Up to that point I had never considered casual sex as a viable option. I thought, isn’t that what seedy people do?

Boy, was I wrong.

Casual sex can help you find a person you like
Exploring sex with different partners helped me discover more about what I liked and disliked in the bedroom. Practised safely, casual sex can help you discover more about the kind of partner you’re physically compatible with. I won’t lie and pretend that it was all fun and excitement. There were times when I went out with women who just weren’t right for me at all. Hell, some dates were downright scary! Fortunately the experience helped me learn to identify which women I was more likely to have a connection with.

Yes you read that right; sex is a lot more fun with someone you have a connection with.

How dating (and sex) helped me find love
After my breakup in 2011, I developed a crippling level of shyness for months and it took time to rebuild my confidence. By the time I met my fiancé in 2014, I had lost count of the number of women I had dated. How did I get there?

Well, I learned a few key things:

1. Women and men are both nervous when they meet on a date
2. Both sexes enjoy…sex (is that really a surprise?)
3. There are loads of people looking for sex and love
4. Honesty in what you want goes a long way in getting it
5. When something doesn’t work, try something new.
6. Casual sex can increase your chances of finding a compatible partner

Sex is often seen as the final seal of a relationship, but in fact it’s the opposite. After all what happens if you really like someone, only to find you’re not compatible in bed later on? Trust me; that does happen. I’m not saying you should jump into bed with someone straight away on a first date. But if you both find one another attractive, then you shouldn’t wait too long before having sex.

How do I know if casual sex is right for me?
We learn by doing. That’s all there is to it really. How will you know if you like something unless you try it? How will you know if you don’t like it? It might be casual sex is not for you (in which case I would suggest you might be on the wrong website), and that’s fine. However if you do like it, it can lead you to meet people that are more compatible than you realise.

I met my fiancé after several months of casually dating an ex-police officer. I wasn’t expecting to meet the person I’m going to marry. I wasn’t expecting anything to be honest. But because I had learned what I liked and didn’t like in a woman, I had narrowed down the kind of woman I knew I would find attractive physically and mentally. It led me to meet my fiancé.

What next?
As a writer I’m a big believer in sharing my knowledge and helping other people as much as possible. To that end I’m keen to share  ‘An Inbetweener’s Guide to Dating’ to members and readers of Toyboy Warehouse released in March 2017. It’s packed full of advice and tips on finding the right date for you, and draws on not just my own experience, but the experiences of hundreds of daters.

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, what brought you into the world of erotica?

I fell into writing erotic romance by chance. I’d just completed a creative writing course at Cardiff University, and saw a contest with LoveHoney to write an erotic piece of fiction. I was thrilled to win first place with MADAM PRESIDENT – a saucy tale about the first female president of the USA and the British PM (you can read it in Stories For When The Sun Goes Down). After that I wrote more erotic romance and was picked up quickly by Violet Blue to feature in Best Women’s Erotica 2010 – which even got a mention on Oprah Winfrey! – before progressing to longer pieces. My first novel was released in 2010 and since then I have written, and had published over 65 other pieces of work, many of which are full length novels. Writing has become a full time job for me and something I love very much.

2) What have you learnt in your time as an erotic fiction writer?

Before I started writing I was a registered nurse and worked in London. I spent most of my time in the accident department and thrived on the fast pace and the adrenaline. I also adored my colleagues and the satisfaction that came from helping people when they were vulnerable and in pain. Now I enjoy a slower pace of life. I have many hours on my own and I’ve learnt to be okay with that. I miss nursing but it wasn’t ever going to be a life long career for me for several reasons (twenty years was enough) and now, with a second chance at a job that allows me to indulge my creative side, I’m very happy. It’s a good place to be not least because my home is now Wales and I have amazing views from my small, top floor study.

3) Many other writers in your position struggle to get their work seen by a wider audience, what obstacles have you faced in your time?

There are many obstacles every step of the way. First and foremost the work you’re promoting has to be quality. By that I mean learn the craft. Many people have wonderful imaginations and talent for telling stories, but there’s a skill in putting it onto paper, and definite rules that publishers want adhered to. Once the work is out there, it’s important to do some promotion, of course it helps if the publisher is also on your side when it comes to marketing. Having a newsletter is a great way to keep readers who are fans of the genre up to date, and by giving out a free ebook to everyone signing up, it’s possible to let them sample your work. I give out a copy of SCORED, a super sexy sport themed erotic romance, to everyone that signs up to my newsletter.

4) What do family & friends think about your profession? Are they supportive?

I think it sneaked up on many of them. I use a pen name which only a few people in my ‘real life’ know, but all family and friends know I write and that when I’m immersed in a project I don’t tend to be very sociable. My husband is very supportive and always keen to help with research! He travels a lot on business, and while I used to hate that, now I look at it as quiet days with just my cat and dog and the space to write. I am of course very glad when he comes home.

5) Tell us about Toy Boy?

TOY BOY was great fun to write and as the words hit the page I was transported to Greece which is where I set this short novel. Several years ago we holidayed there and spent a week sailing around the islands. For as long as I live the colours of the sea and the sky and the beautiful white buildings will be with me. There is something magical about Greece and being out on a boat with turtles, dolphins and sunfish, then throwing anchor in a deserted cove and opening a bottle of wine to go with bread and cheese for lunch. I gave the characters all of this and more, it was the perfect place for a romance to blossom. I also enjoyed the dynamics of the older woman, younger man in the story and the fact it was her that needed persuading to give them a chance.

Toyboy_book

Getting something unexpected can be a shock, but it can also be a wonderful treat, if you allow yourself to indulge, that is.

Kay is bubbling with excitement. She’s booked a sailing holiday of a lifetime in Greece with a man she’s fallen for hook, line and sinker. They met on the Internet. She’s from Oxford, he’s from Washington State. She’s a business lecturer, he runs his own successful business.

They’re perfect for each other, and she can’t wait to meet him and spend time in and out of his bed, allowing him to seduce her for real and not just with softly spoken words over the telephone.

But when she arrives in the idyllic port of Fiscardo, she’s in for a shock. There’s a reason Sullivan’s photographs were grainy, and it’s not because he’s sporting a potbelly or balding as she’d suspected. It’s because he’s over a decade younger than her and could rival any Greek god in the looks department. What’s more, his sex appeal and lust for her is off the scale.

Should Kay take what she can with her ‘toy boy’ and have some fun in the sun or hop on the first plane back to England? It’s a tricky decision for a woman who believed she couldn’t be surprised by life anymore.

6) What advice do you have to people tempted to write erotic fiction but haven’t started yet?

As I said before, learn the craft, whether it’s an evening class, online class or something at the local college. You need to understand the process before you start. Then find yourself a friend/fellow author who has at least a smidgen of sensitivity and a whole lot of honesty, to share your work with. Opinions on the plot and characters are always best heard from a friend rather than a publisher or reviewer, it gives you a chance to fix any issues. Then be persistent. A successful author is one who hasn’t given up.

7) What does the future of erotic fiction hold?

It’s been a whirlwind for erotic romance and erotica these last few years. Fifty Shades of Grey’s success combined with the popularity of self-publishing means everyone is able to ‘give it a go’ independently. This has made it hard for readers to find quality material and also made them reluctant to spend their money when so many books are only 99c/99p or free. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for self-publishing and have several of my own books on that platform, I also have 99c/99p and free books (but only first in series) so readers can sample my work. But it’s not viable to produce quality books with quality editing and quality cover art and sell at that price. I hope that the genre continues to be popular, and that readers don’t become disillusioned if they pick up a few ‘bad’ books. There are many wonderful, talented authors out there, who, like me, are compelled to write, do so for a living. These authors create fantastic sexy characters for readers to fall in love with and beautiful storylines perfect for curling up with on cold winter evenings.

Ruth Saberton: Katy Carter Keeps a Secret

sabertonNominee for the RNA’s Romantic Comedy of the Year Award, glowing reviews from daytime giants Richard and Judy, renowned guest writer for Little Black Dress, Avon, Orion, etc. – it’s not difficult to see why Ruth Saberton’s latest work makes our list. Saberton’s work fits perfectly in the romance genre. Emotion reigns supreme – the characters’ vulnerability, kindness, sadness and joy are central to what makes her novels so great.

One issue our panel sees with many romance writers is that of ‘one-dimensional’ characters. People are either the love interest, the antagonist, the comedic character and nothing more than that. For Saberton, her characters’ personalities extend well past these confines, understanding and relating to them are wildly more easy and enjoyable. Characters develop, not simply due to its necessity in the narrative, they develop intelligently. Your attitudes change so that you’re constantly enthralled. A personal favourite for our panel has been the Escape series and Dead Romantic, the latter mixing supernatural ideas with heartbreaking emotion.

It’s easy for us to say Saberton’s latest novel, Katy Carter Keeps a Secret, makes our list for the Most Eagerly Anticipated Erotic and Romance Fiction of 2016.

Available on 18 June, 2016. Get your copy here.

Lily Harlem: One Night in Cape Town

onenightincapetownNumber 23 in the City Nights series, One Night in Cape Town follows Tia, after her fiancé and best friend’s betrayal she escapes to South Africa. Anger doesn’t mask her desire for too long and soon she’s left to the mercy of a wild storm and the sexy and charming Levi’s survival skills.

Harlem’s work is easily commendable for its variety, no matter the story matter, love interests, gender, setting, Harlem keeps a smart and sexy current throughout. One of Harlem’s best work, The Silk Tie, is a favourite for our entire panel. Simply put, it’s hot! Really hot! Harlem seems to be the queen of the menage a trois, with Silk Tie (and it’s predecessor The Glass Knot) being 2 of the smartest, sexiest books our panel have read. Fire warning needed!

‘One Night in Cape Town’ is out 29th June. Available here.

Keep your eye out for cougar sex story, Toy Boy, out soon.

Sharon Lynn Fisher: Before She Wakes

beforesheWe’ve seen a lot of authors mix fantasy and science fiction with eroticism, Sharon Lynn Fisher is a standout author in this hybrid genre. Before She Wakes is a series of short stories all embracing these themes and is set to be a fantastic piece of work. Not only is that obvious from Fisher’s past work that our panel loved (Ghost Planet being a particular favourite), early reviews have been glowing.

So many readers have been giving this series of novellas five stars on GoodReads with one reviewer saying ‘Wow. This collection of short stories was definitely a fun read. Every story was just so out there and interesting that at times I couldn’t help but be completely drawn into it.’

Our favourite thing about Fisher is her masterful creation of worlds, it’s easy to become invested in the fantastical settings that she creates. We’re hoping Before She Wakes is just as fantastic.

Purchase Before She Wakes on the 19th July here.

Sydney Landon: Aiden

aidenSydney Landon came to the attention of our panel because of the fantastic Weekend Required, part of the Danvers series. The novel follows couple; Claire and Jason. While the presence of a wonderful romance is undeniable, it’s the heartbreaking start of Claire’s story that turns this work from general romance to something you deeply care about. The following novels in the series (Not Planning on You, Fall for Me, etc.), don’t let the romance be extinguished. Subplots and other characters add to the rich and varied story, making these novels down all the more difficult to put down.

It’s the latest in the Lucian and Lia series which makes our list. Similar to the Danvers series, heartbreak from the start guarantees you relate and care deeply for the characters in this romantic series – especially in the second installment; the dramatic, yet at times wonderfully funny, Fractured. We can’t wait for the latest in the series: Aidan.

Aiden is available 31 Jul, 2016. Get your copy here

Audrina Lane: Bloodstained Heart

bloodstainedOur list wouldn’t be complete with a few darker tones, who doesn’t love a novel with something sinister? Audrina Lane’s Bloodstained Heart is set to have just that. Abandoned and betrayed, Felicity is hell bent on taking revenge and destroying the lives of those who get in her way. Following an evil and vindictive protagonist, Bloodstained Heart is set to be an enticing novel.

Lane’s work has never been afraid to look at the darker side of romance and love. Her novels mix laughter and melancholy, while keeping you on your toes with so many twists and turns. A good starting place is the fantastic The Heart Trilogy, which looks at themes of memory, love and loss and mother and daughter relationships.

Bloodstained Heart is out 8 July, 2016. Available here.

Cecillia Tan: Wild Licks (Secrets of a Rock Star)

wildlickAward winning author Cecillia Tan is back and it’s set to be as steamy as ever! We’re so excited for Wild Licks (Secrets of a Rock Star)!

Rock ‘n’ Roll, fantasy and magic, science fiction – Tan has done it all! While transcending so many genres, she has never neglected to inject romance, eroticism, intelligence and spellbinding enthrallment throughout her work. Daron’s Guitar Chronicles takes you back to the time of sex, drugs and rock & roll in the 80’s. Like most of his generation, Daron is lost and unsure of where his life is leading. A story of struggle, Daron’s Guitar Chronicles paints a world so vivid it’s difficult not to be enthralled.

A magic university, erotic sex and Cecilia Tan’s witty writing – what’s not to love? The Magic University series ask ‘what would Harry Potter be like at a hormonal, sex crazed university?’ Magic and eroticism mix to make this series fun and steamy in equal measure.

It was difficult for our panel to pick out particular stand out works in such a varied and wide ranging collection of novels, however other highlights include the award winning Slow Satisfaction and Slow Surrender, the BDSM driven Telepaths Don’t Need Safewords and the prequel to Tan’s addition to our list.

Wild Licks is out 2nd Aug, 2016. Get your copy here.

Laurelin Paige: Last Kiss

lastkissWe’ve got some stern words for Laurelin Paige, release the second in the First and Last series already! After the cliffhanger in First Touch, we’ve been waiting for the the second in the series, Last Kiss, with bated breath.

First Touch was fantastic. Not one for the feint of heart, the novel never pulls any punches. It’s progantist, Emily, is far from a flat stereotype. Her complexity will make you hate and love her at the same time. Paige clearly knows what she’s doing, masterfully written and deliciously charming, the first in the First and Last series combines dark eroticism with intelligent grace.

One’s not enough! With so many of us needing the know what happens next, Last Kiss easily makes it on our list for the Most Eagerly Anticipated Romance and Erotic Fiction of 2016.

Last Kiss is available 14th June. Get your copy here.

Fox Emerson: A Boy Called Q & Toby

tobyWe can cheat! Fox Emerson is our first author to get two books on our list. A Boy Called Q and Toby are out 16th and 15th June respectively.

Why has Emerson made our list? If you haven’t read Monique you are missing out. So many of our panel loved Emerson debut novel that he has to get a mention on this list. Monique follows Kelly-Anne as she struggles through a dark world of drugs, rape, violence and more. Warning, this is a powerful story that is far from light and fun, it is not an easy read yet is full of emotion and at times heart-breaking.

We’re really looking forward to Emerson’s latest work. The plot to A Boy Called Q is quoted as following ‘Q, [a] young man from Yorkshire who moves to London and finally gathers the courage to embark on his first gay, erotic experience with another man’. However for Emerson sensuality and eroticism isn’t all fine and dandy, torn between his gay feelings and his shame Q struggles to overcome what may have been ‘the biggest mistake of his life’.

Toby also makes our list, the novel follows a bisexual sex worker in Barcelona, whose life is  ‘spiraling out of control’. ‘In order to escape, he must win over the power his childhood demons have over him.’ If Toby is as powerful as Monique, we will not be able to recommend it highly enough.

Purchase Fox Emerson’s work here.

Brenda K. Davies: Good Intentions

goodintentionsIf we were making a list of the top erotic novel front covers Brenda Davies (also writing under Erica Stevens) would take the number one spot. However, it’s not just the covers that have made us eagerly anticipate Davies’ next work.

Davies’ most popular series must her fantastic Vampire Awakening Series, currently spanning over 5 books. I know what you’re thinking; the vampire erotic thing has been done to death! Thankfully the series breaths new life into this subgenre, adding something extra that makes it more enthralling than so many other novels we’ve read. It would be difficult to go into detail without spoiling anything, but be rest assured, the mature use of action and eroticism makes this series something you need to check out.

Our addition to the list is the first in a new set of books, The Road the Hell Series. It’s set to continue the dark themes, supernatural and otherworldly ideas and exciting eroticism from the preceding series.

Good Intentions is out 17 Jul 2016. Get your copy here.

 Lainie Suzanne: Wicked

wickedNexus: The Core of Erotic Desires. What a name for a series opening book! The Nexus series is hot! Really hot!

The first in the series, our personal favourite, follows Katherine Stevens. Divorced and lonely she finds her life transformed after a night at Nexus, a local BDSM club. The second in the series, Soleil, follows Debra who ‘is on the verge of experiencing a life she never realized she desired’. The third, Deceit, features our most interesting character yet. Gina struggles to give herself to Leo as her dark past comes back to haunt her.

With erotic BDSM action these books are definitely not for the feint of heart. Suzanne pulls no punches in her depiction of the dramatic, sexual play. All of which seen through the seemingly innocent eyes of her protagonists.

We can’t wait for the next in the series, this time following the sordid Charlotte and Edward. Wicked is out June 28, 2016. Get your copy here.

“How far can a ripped torso take a film?” asked one article on the new Tarzan film.  Then there was this little gem from Buzzfeed  about Italian water polo players. And that hilarious Descendants of the Sun promo.

Believe it or not, I was quite unmoved by all these displays of male physical perfection. I appreciated them, but.

Attractiveness is a funny thing. To me, beautiful doesn’t equate to sexiness but sexiness often does equate to beautiful. It’s a fine line and frequently blurs. So bear with me.

I am decidedly underwhelmed by the ripped gym-honed body that has been shaved or waxed¹ to within an inch of its life. I am well aware that many of my contemporaries love a smooth chest and a shaved packet², but me, I prefer everything intact. A trim is acceptable when it gets so long your fingers get tangled in it, otherwise I’d rather you leave your short and curlies alone please. And don’t get me started on body hair. Chest hair is sexy to me, as is belly fur, and that “snail trail” is delightful. I know, I know — I can hear some of you gagging already. But I like almost hairless bodies too – so long as they are so by nature.

Sexy to me is a natural body. Sexiest to me is one that gets a workout, gets its tone and strength from doing something it loves, be it running, climbing, swimming, dancing, cycling or walking. I don’t really care, so long as it’s activity that’s enjoyed for itself – not just to look good. It says to me that it’s a body that’s loved for itself, not for the way it looks. It tells me that this is a body that would thrill to warm fingers walking up its thigh, the light brush of lips across the shoulder blade. You see, I’m a sensual creature and being able to fully enjoy what your body can do, being able to enjoy what it feels, provides a delicious feedback loop that’s kind of hard to beat.

Colour also plays a huge part in what turns me on. One beauty had skin like dark honey, over which, a constellation of moles and freckles. He had a runner’s body, lean, with strength in his legs, and fairly hirsute. He was a delight to look at and caress³. In contrast, there was a blonde with barely any hair, who was long, with steel in his abs and arms, a lightweight boxer in training. Everything about him was light gold, and glimmered ever so slightly, it was quite something.

I used to think sexiness came from confidence in one’s own skin. But a couple of recent encounters showed me that there is a certain something about shyness too. One was just hesitant, unsure about where to put limbs (but not where to put his lips, happily) and trembled ever so slightly. It was simply enchanting.

Another flushed easily, and fumbled over his words whenever I surprised him. He was like an awkward young giraffe, all long-limbed gawkiness. It charmed the pants off me. Literally. It helped that he was pale as moonlight, blonde like a small sun, and had the most enormous, intensely blue eyes I had ever seen. And when he spoke, he had a mellifluous voice…

Which brings me to something that you just can’t get off a profile picture: the sound of someone’s voice. Cadence, tone and accent. I had spent much of my adult life assessing voices for work, so it’s something that affects me profoundly. It doesn’t matter how beautiful you are physically, but if the sound of your voice grates on me, I have to say, no thanks. A voice that is a pleasure to listen to, that raises the small hairs on my shoulders and has me smiling like a sun-struck loon is automatically sexy.

You know what knocks me over every time? The smile. Shy or confident, lopsided or five-miles wide, a suggestion in a midnight beard or a broad dimpled grin. I couldn’t tell you exactly why a particular smile makes someone sexy and why another doesn’t. It does not have anything to do with how genuine that smile is either.

Physicality aside, all that is nothing if the conversation is stilted and has my mind wandering. The reverse is also true, although less so. I have been exceedingly lucky in that, so far, most of my first meets have sparked and crackled, perfect meetings of mind and body. I have to say though, the real deal breaker for me is the voice.  That is not something  I seem to be able to get over, try as I might. It’s like hearing nails on a board at worst.

All this is my tastes, my preferences — this is something I want to emphasise.

The media, and therefore, society, seems to advocate a certain standard of beauty and sexiness. I say poo to that.  Discern for yourself what appeals to you. Don’t let anyone else dictate what you should or should not like. Love yourself and your body. Find out what turns you on, not what “experts” say should turn you on. Oh, and roll with it when that changes, because tastes do. I may like natural bodies now, but I’ve had a carefully manicured body under my hands and he was just as beautiful to me.

I, like you, am unique. I won’t appeal to all, and really, why would I want to?

¹ What are you? A dolphin? So sayeth that icon of malehood, Mr T.

² I know many men like a “clean workspace” but it desensitises me and leaves me numb. Plus: ew! It’s just a bit child-like, don’t you think?

³ To be perfectly honest, they are all a pleasure to caress. 🙂

Valentine’s Day came and went quietly in my house. I spent it with the love of my life who gave me a handmade card of a single heart — the six year-old version of minimalist style.

As usual, Commercial Love Day was everywhere I went, and plastered all over the Internet. Everyone was urged to show their love with all the usual trappings: flowers, champagne, cards and so many hearts in a every conceivable material that it made me slightly nauseous. But it did get me thinking about romance.

It made me wonder, do men like to be romanced? A straw poll of the singletons I knew suggested that they wouldn’t. Well, until I suggested what that romancing might be. And a couple changed their minds rather quickly.

It really does boil down to what romancing entails. To some, it’s lavishing the object of one’s affection with expensive gifts or experiences. To others, it’s indulging someone else’s pleasures, or simply having quality time together. For me, it was mostly about showing how much I wanted that person. In my long marriage, Valentine’s Day was an excuse to do something out of the ordinary. It’s silly I know, after all it’s a completely arbitrary day — I could pick any day of the year to do this and did. But it felt good to be part of something global, despite the heavy commercial emphasis¹.

I get a big buzz out of planning and throwing small parties because I love seeing people have a good time, it’s a massive ego trip. So when it comes to romancing, I like to get creative, and because I am me, these tend to be nearly always sex-oriented.

Oh, I wasn’t above the beach getaway, the romantic canoe down a river, picnics under the stars. But every now and again, I get inspired. The sexiest plan I executed took weeks of research. We’re talking a dinner of aphrodisiacs, a carefully selected porno, and a seduction room of sensual pleasures. It was almost as fun planning it as it was doing it.

But the most romantic? Ah, that was one I never realised. It was a treasure hunt all over town. Each clue was a different cryptographic puzzle: so there was a blank postcard (invisible ink), a riddle hidden in a picture, a musical cipher, a code inside a sudoku puzzle, and so on. The first, middle and last locations were places we’d shared: the field in which we frequently had lunch, where we had our first kiss and a weird spot which is quite unromantic but amusing, because I had acted like a flighty teenager. The treasure was going to be a copy of my favourite erotic novel². I wasn’t an enthusiast, but the recipient was a complete crypto nut (think Cicada 3301) and I knew he would love it. I never carried it out because, well, even I though I was besotted, he was very not.

I asked my young men how they would like to be romanced, and so far, the question appears to have stumped them.

Well, this is how I would: for two in particular I’d send flowers accompanying mystery parcels to their office. The parcels will contain lacy underwear with very specific instructions and no, they would not be for me to wear. For one hot blonde, champagne would feature but not to drink. Well, at least not out of a glass. For an adventurer, I would create an erotic story mosaic. If we were actually living in the same area, these would pop up in unexpected places: a Post-It here, a card there, a snippet on the back of take-away coffee cup, a voice message, a text from a strange number, all coming together into one. For one very young spunk, it would be a school teacher fantasy.

My ideas of romance here are simply sex games, but they’re based on what I know about each of these young men, and it’s an expression of my appreciation and desire to bring about their pleasure.

Naturally, the nature of the relationship is fundamental. To romance someone I had a deep, emotional attachment to, someone with whom I had shared a gamut of experiences? Ah, well, that’s a whole different bathtub of rose petals.

¹Having said that, in some cultures, giving money is romantic.

²It was famously given to Bill Clinton by an intern called Monica

Going a date if you have been single for a while might be stressful. When my five year-long relationship finished and I went on my first date after it, I was nervous and scared. I also lacked confidence in myself and I completely forgot how to flirt. I was very conscious of what this new guy would think of me, I was conscious about my behaviour and worried if he was going to like me and find me attractive. Suddenly, all the inferiority complexes kicked in again.

I have written some dating tips for you and I hope they will help you to go on your date relaxed and prepared. All of them have been tried and tested by myself.

Tip#1 Date when you feel ready

ready

If you have just ended a relationship, give yourself time to recover! Get back on your feet and date only when you feel the moment is right. Try not to be pressurised by your friends and family telling you to go out or trying to introduce you to their friends. You need to be over your ex completely before you can open your heart to someone new. I’ve been there, it took me nearly nine months before I was ready to go on a date. Remember, each of us is different, you may need a week or a year. Allow yourself this time to value yourself and understand who you are.

Tip#2 Be yourself

BeYourself

I think it is important that you don’t pretend to be someone you aren’t. You should not be ashamed of what you do and who you are. For example, I tend to talk a lot and I was quite conscious of the fact that it might be seen as excessive but then I thought, “how am I supposed to be with someone if they don’t accept me the way I am”. People who put masks on actually deceive others as well as themselves! Sooner or later the truth will come out.

Tip#3 Ask Questions

question

Prepare a few questions beforehand if you want to avoid an awkward silence. I mean questions about family, books, future plans, etc. It will help you to understand if the person in front of you shares similar values, has same hobbies as you. It will help to establish some common ground. If you struggle to think of any questions because you are too nervous, pop in to Romantic Duo’s Facebook page. You will find there weekly selection of Questions that you could ask on a date.

Tip#4 Prepare a dating plan

think

What I mean here is that you think of places where you could meet your Mr/Mrs Right! Places you or your friends often go. Open your eyes and start noticing people around you. Do you see some smiley NEW faces?

Tip#5 Make an effort, first impression counts

dressup

Let’s be honest – the first thing you look at is physical appearance. It is like judging the book by its cover. I am not saying this is the right or wrong thing to do, it is just human nature. This is something we all do, so maybe it is worth thinking about what to wear when going on a first date? Where to go and what time to meet? Some initial preparation is crucial. But the most important thing is to BE on TIME!

We’ve compiled a list of the most exciting romance and erotic novels we’ll be reading in 2016. Forget anything like ’50 Shades of Grey’, this is the ultimate countdown of the best erotic and romance novels you could possibly buy.

____

Lost in his Eyes by Ginger Simpson

simpsonDespite dabbling in other genres, Simpson has always returned to the historical novel, and we’re grateful for it. Lost in His Eyes takes place in 1894 where everyday life isn’t all roses and smiles. Set in drought stricken Oklahoma, the battling natural forces that beset our love-stricken couple make for an enduring tale.

Where for some novelists the history genre may slow down the pace of their work, Simpson keeps the reader gripped with mystery and intrigue, all combined with a romance story that’s enjoyable and frustrating in equal parts. We follow Harlee Wagner, after an accident at the well she comes to find two things have changed. First, she’s now in the arms of a handsome hero. Second, her entire family is gone.

It’s the ‘Uniformed and Smoking Hot’ series where we find Ramagos’ addition to our list. Fully Involved is the 6th in the series and makes our list of the Most Eagerly Anticipated Erotic and Romance Novels of 2016. Sin Eater (Complete First Season): Dark Urban Fantasy Serial by Jessica West and P.K. Tyler

westThe ‘Sin Eater’ series has spanned a gruesome and trilling 7 books. The complete series, released in one edition, makes our list for the Most Eagerly Anticipated Erotic and Romance Novels of 2016.

The series follows Nikolai Grekh, the last Sin Eater. In a world consumed by evil demons, Nik must suffer through an endless war against sin. The sexiness varies across the series, with it being most prominent near the beginning. That’s not to its disadvantage however, the explosive characters never leave you feeling dull and bored, it’s very much the opposite!

In the first in the series we’re introduced to Nik’s world, the next 6 episode grip us with heart-wrenching surprises and excruciating cliff-hangers. It’s difficult to take a single episode into consideration, the story and building energy requires this series to be read in its entirety from the beginning. For this reason we’re including the soon-to-be-released series in our ultimate list.

Kinky Sexy Dirty (Kinky Bastard Duet Book 1) by Christine Reiss

reissUSA Today bestseller Christine Reiss or should we say C.D. Reiss. For readers looking to delve into Reiss’ work, the difference between the former and the latter is a kind indication to how dark the novel will be. If it’s written by C.D. Reiss (for example ‘The Submission Series’) it’s a lot darker than Christine’s work.

It may seem like that’s not an important point, but it is vital we understand. Reiss’ work, especially in the submission series, can be extremely dark. This equates to a gripping sexual thrill, be warned however, take a deep breath before delving in. Kinky Sexy Dirty, the first in the ‘Kinky Bastard’ series is lighter. It’s aim is to be sexy but not severe, the nail-biting is replaced with kink and fun. An interesting turn for Reiss, this is why Kinky Sexy Dirty is added to the list of Most Eagerly Anticipated Erotic and Romance Novels of 2016.

Set in the wild Scottish highlands among fearsome rippling warriors, protagonist Andrew Lochlannach is banished to the hinterlands. He’s unphased however, instead his eyes are set on the alluring Susana.

One of the great features of York’s previous work is the female characters. Headstrong and silver tongued they’re easy to root for, and we’re getting our pom poms out! Susana is set to be no exception, described as having ‘flaming red hair and a temper to match’.

Illicit Temptation (Club Exotica) by Kate Allure

allureIn true Toyboy Warehouse style, Illicit Temptation is about an older, successful woman. A high court judge and member of the queens council she falls for a younger, sexy barrister.

Allure has received a great attention from her previous books, with a number of publications giving positive reviews. Publishers Weekly described Lawyer Up as a novel with ‘intense chemistry, great characterization, and a kinky page-singeing ending will have readers clamoring for’. Library Journal described Allure’s work as ‘quick, easy reads [that] will appeal to anyone looking for a sexy book that they can put down and pick back up with no trouble. Submissive Seductions by Christine D’Abo

daboWith over 30 publications to her name, Submissive Seductions is set to another sexy, kinky romp that develops into a genuine romantic story. The novel follows Liz, after purchasing a Dom from a charity auction she manages to live out her secret fantasy – to be submissive.

For D’Abo however, a thrilling sex-filled romance isn’t enough, similar to her other work Liz’s feelings transcend the sexual and become something more serious. D’Abo has previously been able to mix heart-wrenching emotion with fun, gripping sexual action – a task that is difficult to pull off. ‘30 Days’, one of D’Abo past novels, is a good example of this. As she wonderfully encapsulates the book is ‘saucy, heartwarming, and insightful, [it] explores the agony—and the ecstasy—of starting over, and how a little encouragement, and a little courage, can go a long way’.
